Mill Hill Now |
Mill Hill School has continued to develop its' relationship with Sri Jayendra School in Tamil Nadu. Traditionally, Mill Hill has funded projects within Sri Jayendra School as a result of fundraising initiatives led by pupils who have taken part in the trip. Thousands of pounds have been raised through concerts, pupils running the 10k at Regents Park and other smaller initiatives. In addition, many parents and Foundation staff have sponsored a child’s education - guaranteeing the future potential of a child from a disadvantaged background to fulfil their dreams.
Sri Jayendra School is in Tamil Nadu, about 50 miles from the southern tip of India. Despite the huge cultural differences, the atmosphere in the school is remarkably similar to that at Mill Hill. They are very keen on extra-curricular activity such as dance, music, and sport though obviously the facilities are extremely limited.
The pupils are charming, happy, keen and delightful and have a friendly and productive relationship with their teachers. The Headmistress, Usha Raman, is anxious to improve the chances of even the poorest children in area. Although the fees are very low many still cannot afford them. This is why the partnership with Mill Hill is so valuable. 200 economically disadvantaged pupils are sponsored by Old Millhillians and parents.
Some of the pupils who have benefitted from the partnership wrote cards to their donors to thank them for their generosity, which in most cases is life changing.
"My sincere gratitude to you for providing this scholarship and supporting my school education. My family and I are really thankful to you for this wonderful support."
"It is an honour for me to be chosen as your sponsored child. I am truly grateful to you and the sponsorship programme which has granted me an opportunity to continue my studies successfully."
"I thank you from the bottom of my heart the scholarship."
