The rivalry between Houses at events such as the Six-and-Ten-Mile Cup, the inter-House Drama Festival, Newcastle or House Music competitions is legendary, and the 2024/25 academic year was no different.
Macgregor, McClure and Atkinson Houses led the way in Effort grades and the number of Commends. Priestley reigned supreme in the General Knowledge and Top of the Bench competitions. Atkinson were victorious in the ever-popular Spelling Bee.
In Music and Drama, McClure House came out on top. Burton Bank won the Battle of the Bands and demonstrated their entrepreneurial skills to beat the competition in the Dragons’ Den. Murray won the annual Newcastle competition and Ridgeway were Debating champions.
Competition was no less fierce in the Sports arena. McClure were victorious in the girls’ Hockey and Netball events and School House came out on top in the swimming pool. Cedars won the Junior Cross-Country race and Burton Bank the Senior competition. Priestley were Golf champions.
The whole school came out to support the Six-and-Ten-Mile Cup event; Murray won the Ten-Mile Cup race, Atkinson were supreme in the Six-Mile Cup and retained the overall trophy. The combined Boarders’ team triumphed in the Sports Day team events and Atkinson continued to demonstrate their athletic prowess by winning the Athletics. Cedars were overall Sports Day winners.
Taken as a whole, the final placings for inter-House competitions in 2024/25 could not have been closer. Atkinson and McClure Houses jointly won the House Shield, with Priestley third and Murray, fourth. Congratulations to everyone who represented their House this year and for making sure that Mill Hill’s House spirit is alive and well!
