Mill Hill Now |
At the beginning of spring, we had the incredible pleasure of a visit from the great grandson of our longest serving Headmaster, Sir John McClure, the centenary of whose death you will no doubt be aware we are commemorating this year.
During his visit, Andrew McClure gave a fascinating insight into Sir John David McClure’s life, not just as the 'Maker of Mill Hill' but as a family man. Andrew also shared his plans to begin a project to edit the letters that his grandfather (Keith McClure) wrote home to his father (Sir John David McClure) and mother, from the time he went to Cambridge in 1910 through to his arrival at Porton Down to start his first, post-demobilisation job in 1919. There are over 100 letters and Andrew wants to present them in a form that is more accessible to current and future generations of his family by transcribing and editing them.
Mrs Sanchez (Head, Mill Hill School) feels honoured by the loan of the original letters and family photographs.
Please read the chapter at the end of the OMs' impressive McClure supplement to The Martlet written by Mrs Sanchez (Head, Mill Hill School), you will have a sense of the awe-inspiring influence of this remarkable man who dedicated the greater part of his working life to the School.
