World War I: St Georges Memorial Church

Back in April, Ronny Cohn (Weymouth, 1959-1963) made a trip to the war graves in Ypres. He visited the Menin Gate for the daily Last Post and had a guided tour of the area.

During his tour, Ronny visited St Georges Memorial Church situated in the centre of Ypres, which opened in 1929. It is full of memorials to those who gave their lives in the Great War, however, Ronny noticed that there was no plaque to commemorate Mill Hill School’s fallen.

After returning home, he contacted the School to find out how we could to honour the 193 Old Millhillians and Masters who gave their lives in the service of their country in World War I.

Following a joint effort between Ronny and Jane Sanchez (Development Office), Mark Dickinson (Head of History and Politics) and Ryan Venn Dunn (Foundation Chaplain). On July 18, 2026, a commemorative plaque has now been installed, and a visit is planned for a Service of Dedication to be held in the Spring of 2027. Watch this space as full details will be circulated nearer the time.
