1807 Society City Luncheon 2023

Top Stories

On a grey and rainy day, members of the 1807 Society gathered in the warm sanctuary of the Ironmongers' Hall - even the weather couldn't dampen the spirits of those in attendance. The event was made even more special by the attendance of the new Head of Mill Hill, David Benson.

Lucia Hull, Mill Hill's Director of Development, kicked off the proceedings, welcoming everyone during the drink’s reception. Thanking everyone, she reinforced the incredible impact legacy donations have made on bursary pupils' lives.

OM Stewart Wernham echoed this sentiment in his speech, where he recounted the life-changing impact of the Middlesex Scheme on his life. The Scheme gave Stewart the opportunity to attend Mill Hill, which put him onto a path that would have otherwise been completely inaccessible. The new Head, David, then spoke, although he was the first to admit it was tough to follow Stewart’s incredibly moving speech. David reflected on the incredible impact bursary pupils have on a school's environment, highlighting how bursary pupils have and continue to strengthen Mill Hill's community and academic results.

Following these rousing speeches, the group descended into pockets of conversations. Memories of 'old glory days' and colleagues sadly no longer with us, discussions about the School's vision of the future were shared around the table. A wonderful and memorable time was had by all - we look forward to seeing everyone again at the next Luncheon in 2024!

What is the 1807 Society?

This 1807 Society is named after the year Mill Hill School was founded and recognises the generosity of those who have chosen to include a gift to Mill Hill in their Will. These gifts have transformed the School and continue to do so today. Over the last few decades, the 1807 Society has grown in number – now counting over 40 members across the globe. Members are invited to lunches and events every year with the Head and CEO including a lunch in the Spring and another in the Autumn. These events are a real highlight of the school calendar and are thoroughly enjoyed by all those who attend.

If you have included the School in your Will but haven’t yet notified us, we would love to be able to include you in these special events. Or if you are considering leaving a gift and would like to know more about the difference you could make, please contact Lucia Hull, Director of Development:  lucia.hull@mhsfoundation.uk or telephone +447720 682232.
