Brothers Yiannis Fafalios (Ridgeway 2007-12) and Dimitris Fafalios (Burton Bank 2014-17) have set up crowdfunding App
WhatWeWant that went live in November of last year. The app allows users to crowdfund on a more micro level like gifts.
Yiannis writes, “Since COVID-19, we have pivoted to allow people and businesses to use our platform to raise money for a specific cause. We have raised over £2,500 since the pivot for various causes some of them are still live, check out this link and we would be grateful for any
contributions made”.
One of the worthy causes set up by the
WhatWeWant creators was to donate 5,000 face shields to the NHS. The brothers were able to join forces with fellow Old Millhillian, Tommy Chan (Ridgeway 2004-09) whose factory makes face shields. Tommy generously donated the masks so all that was left to do was raise funds for postage and packaging. A successful Mill Hill team-up.
The 5000 plastic face visors were delivered to The Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust on Wednesday 27
th May. The NHS Trust provides community health services to more than two million people across eleven London boroughs and Hertfordshire. They are responsible for getting together and providing 15,000 PPE kits per week for the 4000 strong staff. Their 4000 healthcare workers visit people's homes and local clinics, providing services for new-born babies through to community nursing, stroke rehabilitation and palliative care for people towards the end of their lives. As well as providing nursing/medical support for care homes, children's homes, disabled people either at home or in homes and the prison services. They are the 'Cinderella' service of the NHS and the sector which are often in the news for not receiving adequate PPE, leaving many of their staff exposed.
WhatWeWant
continue to Crowdfund to provide further face shields where needed the most.
