We posed a few questions James Wright (Burton Bank 2014-16)
James playing for the 1st XV
Which teams/activities/clubs were you involved in at School?
I played 1st XV Rugby for both of my 2 years at Mill Hill and have to say they were the most enjoyable years of my life and rugby career to date, not only getting to play with friends on stages such as Allianz Park, but Top Field too on dates such as Foundation Day.
How would you describe the pupil experience at Mill Hill?
Upon my first days and weeks at Mill Hill it was clear that the environment was one of support. Whether it be older students in the library willing to help you with questions you may have had trouble with in a chosen subject, or teachers making sure you're settling in to boarding life. There's definitely a strong cooperative community within the School.
Did you hold any positions of responsibility at School?
For both my years at Mill Hill I was a senior member of the Anti-Bullying Committee, whereby we aimed to increase awareness of bullying in order to tackle the issue head-on, through Chapel services, assemblies etc. Additionally, I was on the School Council and a member of
the Eco Committee.
What subject do you hope to read at university and where?
My preferred course is Business Management. I will be applying to University of Leeds, Bath, Exeter and Bristol.
What impact do you think the bursary has had on your life so far?
Not only has it meant I've been able to play a standard of rugby that wouldn't have otherwise been available to me (helping me to get into the Saracens U18s academy) but most importantly it's given me a fantastic education I wouldn't have been able to get.
