Rewind three years and I was in my final year of Medical School, nervously awaiting results of my finals and what my first job as a Doctor would bring. Never could I have imagined that I would be on the front line of a global pandemic just a few years later. Working in a busy Accident and Emergency Department during the COVID-19 crisis, I would say the most remarkable things have been the overwhelming displays of kindness and compassion as well as the extraordinary sense of camaraderie and community.

From the general public, who have been so generous with donations to keep us fed and watered, to patients and members of staff. I have lost count of the number of times a patient has taken the time to say “thank you for everything that you are doing for us” to me and I find myself lost for words; all I can reply is that “that is what we are here for”. These have undoubtedly been the toughest months of my career so far, but ones that I am sure I will look back on proudly.
