‘It is a beauteous evening, calm and free,
The holy time is quiet as a Nun
Breathless with adoration , the Broad sun
Is sinking down in its tranquility; …….’
Wordsworth wrote these words in one of his best loved poems. While the evening event in the room named after the poet in St John’s College will be ‘beauteous’ and ‘calm’ I am afraid it will not be ‘free’, unless you are an Old Millhillian undergraduate at Cambridge University or another of the excellent universities in East Anglia.
With a little over two weeks before the East Anglia Dinner on Friday 15th May there is no time to lose before you register your attendance. I am confident you will not be disappointed with the fine food and wine, the elegance of the Wordsworth Room and, of course, the company of fellow Old Millhillians and guests, including the President, John Hellinikakis, and a senior member of the teaching staff from the Foundation.
It is a formal dinner, so black tie and dinner jacket would be preferred but lounge suits are also acceptable. We are offering this form of East Anglia meeting by way of a change from our more informal and educational format of the last few years, so don’t miss this more lavish variant of what East Anglia and, in particular, Cambridge can offer.
I look forward to welcoming you and your guest to St John’s College on Friday 15th May from 6.30pm for the Champagne Reception.
