Dear Old Millhillians,
if, like me, you have been to Cambridge many times and have yet to visit the iconic public house patronised by one of our most distinguished Old Millhillians, Francis Crick FRS, this East Anglia Meeting gives you the opportunity to tick that box while enjoying the company of fellow OMs with a glass of wine in your hand as you view the memorabilia and artefacts of Crick and his collaborator, James Watson, retained within The Eagle in the heart of the academic centre of Cambridge.
As outlined in my previous notification of this event, the invitation is for you to make your way to The Eagle and meet with other OMs in the garden of this old coaching inn, the oldest of its kind in Cambridge, for a glass of wine or two from 11.30am on Saturday 13th May. After taking a look around the bars of the pub for references to Crick and Watson and its other historic connections, we shall make our way to the familiar surroundings of Trinity College to enjoy a two course hot buffet lunch while mingling with old friends and new acquaintances of a wide range of ages.
Already two Cambridge undergraduates have registered to attend and we are pleased that Lucia Hull, the Director of Development, is attending on behalf of the Foundation. Lucia will be unknown to most of you, having taken up her appointment only a few months ago. She has kindly agreed to bring us up to date with the ambitious development plans of the Foundation and no doubt she will touch on smaller plans as well. It is also a pleasure that Chris Kelly, our President, will be with us and Chris has agreed to bring us news on the Club and on his travels as President to many parts of the world so far.
David Short and I are always delighted to see loyal supporters of these meetings and equally happy to welcome new faces, sometimes from farther afield than East Anglia. It is an event, like all the meetings arranged by the Club, that is open to all OMs and their guests. We are fortunate to have in Cambridge a fund of places of interest and historic value to include within our programme each year and we hope you are sufficiently tempted by this year’s recipe that you will join us. Simply click on the link at the bottom of this invitation to register and pay.
