OLD MILLHILLIANS CLUB PROFESSIONAL NETWORKING EVENTS
All OMs INTERESTED IN OR PRACTISING LAW AND THE PROCESS OF JUSTICE 6.30 pm at offices of Wedlake Bell LLP, 71 Queen Victoria Street, London EC4V 4AY
This is an event that should interest any OM who has an interest in justice and democracy. We are fortunate to welcome as our guest speaker David Greene, Senior Partner and Head of Litigation & Dispute Resolution at Edwin Coe and Vice President of the Law Society of England & Wales.
David will speak on "Where’s the justice", covering the successes and failings in the justice process and its centrality to the maintenance of liberal democracy.
David has worked on numerous high profile collective claims here and in other jurisdictions, including: Lockerbie bombing, the Hillsborough disaster, Railtrack shareholders’ action against the Government, Northern Rock, investors in the Madoff fraud. He has also for many years worked in sub-Saharan Africa.
More recently he was on the winning side in the Article 50 Brexit litigation: the UK's Supreme Court decided on 24 January 2017 that Ministers could not themselves give notice under Article 50 to leave the EU and had to obtain Parliament's approval.
David speaks and writes on civil justice and human rights. He spends much of his time these days writing and talking about the “B” word and some might refer to him as a Brexpert. He is articulate, charming and entertainingly controversial. This promises to be a fascinating evening of interest to all OMs, not just those in or close to the legal profession.
David Greene also heads up the legal team currently advising campaigner Gina Miller on her application to the high court for a judicial review of Boris Johnson’s plan to prorogue parliament. Subject to client confidences, David has agreed to discuss prorogation at our event.
You must apply and pay to attend this event for capacity, security and Mill Hill School pupil safeguarding reasons. Name badges are issued at Wedlake Bell Reception and only OMs on the official list will be able to attend the evening. Apologies for the obvious, but there have been past transgressions and a reminder is needed.
This promises to be a very interesting evening so, as a special incentive, the Club is subsidising the event price for OM students as well as Mill Hill School with aspirations for a career in law.
Price includes buffet, pre-dinner drinks and coffee/tea.
