John Gallagher, OM President and distinguished lawyer, is our Guest Speaker at the OM Legal Event on 17 November 2022. The Event will be held at Wedlake Bell, 71 Queen Victoria Street, London EC4V 4AY.

This evening meeting will include drinks, buffet supper and Guest Speaker's talk, followed by a Q and A session with John. 

"Is the law meeting Society's needs in the 21st century?" is the wide ranging title of John's talk. This will include domestic issues (such as whether the public has sufficient access to legal representation and whether current sentencing and parole policies make sense) and international issues such as the role of the International Criminal Court in The Hague.

Besides being a very entertaining speaker with many anecdotes, John has a great variety of legal experience and expertise gathered during his long legal career. Having taken in en route a BA in classics and theology at Kings College London, he was called to the Bar in 1974. Since then he has built an extensive legal practice including such diverse areas as clinical negligence, professional indemnity insurance, ecclesiastical law, gun licensing law and sports law – the latter bringing him into contact, metaphorically speaking, with notable Premier division rugby footballers and professional footballers.

He is a Crown Court Recorder, Chancellor of the Diocese of Rochester and Deputy Chancellor of Chelmsford.
